A Message from Your Principal: Hygiene Packs for Haiti

Dear Wedgwood Families,

In January we remembered Dr. Martin Luther King and his message of service, peace, forgiveness, the power of our words and the reminder that we all can make a difference in our world. This month students have learned about his message through readings, writing, our assembly and a variety of activities.

On the 18th our community service group joined Bryant, UW, and Seattle Parks to clean up Seward Park. The kids felt great about helping remove the foreign plants that were smothering the growth of the plants native to the area. On January 19-21, our fifth graders experienced outdoor education, engaging in real science learning and gaining a greater understanding and appreciation of the impact we each have on our community during their stay at Islandwood.

As we watch the news on the devastation occurring to our neighbors in Haiti many of us, adults and children alike, want to reach out to try and support our neighbors. Wedgwood student council will be coordinating efforts to rally our community in providing support to Haiti.

One activity we will be doing is collecting hygiene packets going down with an organization called Children of the Nations. The instructions are listed below and we will be collecting packets through Feb 1st. You can bring them to a drop box that will be in the front of the school.
